Lodging Reviews

One way that I hope to be of service to other travelers is by reviewing where I stay. There are a couple of things you should know. First, I am loyal to Hilton and I am a Diamond member with them so I will speak to that when reviewing Hilton properties. The next thing is that I book a lot with Airbnb so you will be seeing a lot of reviews from there.

My favorite Airbnb – At least, for now, I have found my favorite Airbnb, the Wheelhouse Trachila Mani. To be perfectly honest DeeDee is the one who found this spot. First, let me start with the village of Trachila, it is literally the end of the road (yes I used literally right). It is on the coast on the Greek Peloponnese. The drive into the village is along the coastline and it is beautiful. You drive into the village and straight out to the marina, which is really a concrete dock for a few boats. You park there and the last house on the coast is the place. Just below the house, there are steps into the sea. It is a surreal setting. It is quiet and peaceful and just magical. The actual living space is the upstairs apartment and the hosts family lives below. The space is wonderful. It is very comfortable and we immediately felt at home. What really sets this place apart is the host, Kostas. He is kind and seems genuinely happy to see you. His family and friends sit out on the porch enjoying each others company but they are always willing to stop and include you in the conversation. If you are exploring Greece go to Trachila, meet Kostas and have a wonderful stay. My only regret is that we could not stay for a week!

Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt Airport – This was the first place I stayed to start my 7 months of travel so I have to admit it holds a special place in my heart. This hotel is connected to the Frankfurt Airport and very close to several trains that will take you into the city as well to other regional destinations. The hotel is very nice. The hotel is connected to a Hilton, they share a fitness center and you can charge to your room at both properties. Unfortunately, as I learned you cannot access the Executive Lounge in the Hilton even if you are a Diamond member if you are staying at the HGI. The rooms are small but very efficient. One of the best features of the room I stayed in on the 11th floor was the great views of the airport. This is a great hotel if you are going to be in and out of Frankfurt quickly. The city is easy to reach by train, although for me it was still a barrier and I spent less time exploring than I would have if staying right in the city. It is expensive, as you would expect the airport to be. Most of the options to eat are fast food in the train station so I ate at the hotel several times and prices were way to high for the food available. I received free breakfast as a Diamond member and this helped a lot as the buffet was €25. Next time I would pay (or use points) to stay at the Hilton to have access to the lounge mainly so I could access more food throughout the day.
